In this second and final part, we will continue discussing how to boost your self-confidence and how to make people trust you.

7 Additional Strategies to Boost Confidence

1. Set SMART Goals

Set goals that will boost your confidence and help you progress. The best way to guarantee that you will accomplish these goals is to set SMART goals that motivate you to accomplish noble yet reasonable objectives.

SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-framed. When you rely on the SMART goals framework, the likelihood of achieving them increases. Your goals may be related to:

  1. Job performance and career.
  2. Financial matters.
  3. Physical or mental health.
  4. Personal life.
  5. Relationships.
  6. Hobbies.
  7. Habits.

Think about the areas you want to improve, then set a SMART goal you can strive for.

2. Prepare a List of Your Strengths

You can boost your self-confidence by thinking about your skills, knowledge, and abilities. Make a list of your strengths and describe how you have used them to achieve success. Ask a friend, family member, or coworker about your strengths if you're unsure what to put on the list. Alternatively, consider your favorite activities. You might discover that your strongest suits are the ones you love doing.

Some of your strengths might be natural aptitudes like data analysis or public speaking, or they might be acquired skills like building and designing websites. Whatever your skill set, highlighting your strengths will give you more self-assurance and self-achievement.

Self-Confidence

3. Accept Your Flaws

No one is perfect; we all experience difficult emotions, failures, and tough days. You should give up trying to be perfect right away since you can never get there. Examine your strengths, weaknesses, and imperfections to help you accept your flaws. Then, consider others who have the same flaws, even if you look up to them, so you realize that you are not the only imperfect one.

While your imperfections can help you relate to and empathize with others, they also set you apart. Changing your perspective on your flaws can help you accept vulnerability and avoid self-criticism.

4. Spending Time with Yourself

Set aside time to spend with yourself, just as you would dedicate time to getting to know a new friend or checking in on their well-being. This helps build your self-confidence. Enjoying time by yourself allows you to understand better who you are, what matters to you, what you want out of life, and your strengths and weaknesses. So, grab a journal, find a peaceful spot to sit, turn off your phone, and write down everything that comes to mind.

5. Acting Naturally

After getting to know yourself, just act naturally. This may not be easy, but it helps you regain your self-confidence. You can act naturally by emphasizing your strengths, being open about your weaknesses, and seeking out like-minded people.

Choose the best way to express yourself. This could be through art, such as writing or composing music, or it could be as simple as making personal style choices for your clothes and home furnishings.

6. Not Doubting Your Decisions

It’s frustrating to doubt whether your decisions are big or small constantly. Learning to make decisions fast and then stick to them is a crucial step toward boosting your self-confidence.

It’s helpful to start with simple decisions and gradually work up to bigger ones. If you find yourself second-guessing your choices or attempting to avoid making them, try making a small daily routine change, like picking a different outfit or breakfast.

Over time, you will become accustomed to making these daily decisions, and soon, you will feel more comfortable making bigger decisions as well. Remember that no one is perfect, and it's okay if you still hesitate a bit with your decisions. However, practice will make decision-making more fluid and effortless.

Self-Confidence

7. Using the TRUST Model

The final strategy for boosting self-confidence is to use the TRUST Model, which refers to:

  • Transparency
  • Respect
  • Understanding
  • Shared Success
  • Testing Assumptions

These five essential elements help you build self-confidence. Although they are designed to help you work better with others, you can also apply each step to yourself. For example:

  • Be transparent with yourself.
  • Respect yourself and your abilities.
  • Understand your reality and why you experience certain feelings.
  • Look for solutions that satisfy everyone.
  • Focus on reality and truth, and do not fabricate anything.

These five steps will help you address self-doubt and low confidence if you struggle with them.

How to Become Trusted by Others?

People will trust you more if you can learn to trust yourself. Healthy and strong relationships are built on trust. If you want your family, friends, or colleagues to trust you, here are some steps you should take:

1. Respect Your Commitments

There’s no better way to gain people’s trust than by keeping your promises. This shows them they can rely on you because you honor your word.

Start with yourself. You will commit to others when you fulfill the promises you make to yourself, such as achieving a goal you intend to reach. Small commitments are just as important as large ones. Perhaps you promised your partner that you would wash the dishes tonight or told your boss that you would respond to emails by the end of the day, but you didn’t do either task because they didn’t seem significant to you.

However, people will lose trust in you if you constantly break your word, and you won’t be able to handle more important and larger tasks. Respect small commitments as much as you respect and fulfill large ones.

2. Honesty

Being honest is crucial to earning others' trust, just as you trust people when they treat you honestly. Honesty is one of the key qualities that builds trust because it reveals our true character. Similarly, lying exposes our true selves, and people want to interact with honest people.

Honesty encompasses many points we have discussed. You can be honest with someone by sharing your true needs or discussing your flaws and weaknesses or what is happening in your life. Also, acting naturally is an effective way to deal honestly with those around you because it shows them your true self.

People will trust you the more you trust them, and your communication skills will improve. You can learn how to communicate healthily and productively. Here are some tips for mastering communication:

  1. Be honest.
  2. Be kind and polite.
  3. Learn to listen carefully instead of imposing your opinions.
  4. Always show respect: refrain from yelling, being stern, or disparaging others.
  5. 5. Keep your commitments by fulfilling your promises on time.
  6. Focus on people's virtues and mention them.
  7. Seek out, accept, and implement others' feedback.
